Director's Statement

Carnage Radio began as an idea, a random comment I made while sitting in on Brandon Johnson’s radio show during a break. We had answered some eclectic phone calls from locals in the town. I looked to Brandon and asked, “What if a psycho called and started messing with us?” The next day I called him and said we should explore that idea. Later that week we got together and the two of us shot a fake trailer to put online to see if it would get any attention. Well, it did. Later that month we were teaching a workshop at a film festival, and asked if we would mind them showing our trailer. After it played, I was approached by James V. Hart (screenwriter: Contact, Hook, August Rush) who was there for his own workshop, and he asked where he could see my movie. That was the motivation to write a script. We knew we had to prove ourselves in order to make a full-length film, so I turned the script into a short which was produced with the most micro of budgets. We did a screening in my hometown where we filmed the short, and over 500 locals showed up, including members of the city council. I was called in by the city and asked what I needed to make the feature. They wanted to become a film friendly town. I said, “I need locations.” They told me they would help with that, and we moved onto the next phase which was to do a festival run with the short film. We won some awards and gained attention, then proceeded with trying to make the feature. Then came the delays. First being when I had a massive heart attack. I died six times that night. But I survived, recovered and kept moving forward. We sought out investors with great success. We were delayed again by the pandemic. Once that began to fade, we were 6 months from production when my son was killed in a car accident. I put things on hold while I figured out my life again. But I was determined not only to make this movie for myself, but now my son. He had helped me with test shooting ideas, been my motivation for so much, and I had to keep going for him. After years of work and loss, we began production with an amazing cast and crew. Now the feature film is completed, ready to be shown to the world. James FIte Writer/Director Carnage Radio
